Tourist Information and Resource Centre

Talgarth Information & Resource Centre is a non profit making community organisation. Our operating expenses are not supported financially by bodies such as Visit Wales, Powys CC or BBNPA etc and our continued existence is thanks to the loyal group of unpaid volunteers who staff the shop and the telecentre as well as working behind the scenes.

The Information and Resource Centre is open Monday to Saturday and Sunday mornings all year round and incorporates a Telecentre open to both visitors and locals.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE TIRC

In the late 1990's Talgarth Trust was started by a small group of volunteers to help revitalise the town following the traumatic winding down and closure of the mid Wales Hospital, one of the town's main employers. Talgarth Tourist Information Centre was set up as part of the Trust which had ceased by 2000, but the Centre continued as a Community Association. By 2004 the organisation had grown to encompass many new ventures and was renamed Talgarth Information and Resource Centre.

Originating with tourist information, the centre has gone from strength to strength now catering for many local people who require information such as train/bus timetables, doctors, library, church, theatre programmes etc. The Centre is a valuable source of information in a town with few facilities and infrequent bus services which finish at 6.00 p.m. Young people and those of limited means find it difficult to make use of facilities in neighbouring towns. As well as having information regarding local events, we also have a key to St Gwendonline’s Church which may be borrowed from us by visitors, and there is also a RADAR key for the public toilets.

INTERESTED IN HELPING?

Most of our volunteers do half a day a week (three hours). However, once a fortnight, once a month or even just to cover illness/holidays would help to keep the doors open. It is not a difficult job, just answering people's questions about the area and selling books, leaflets and craft items although some may want to be more involved. New volunteers will always be with someone with experience - we are a happy, friendly bunch! If you are able to give just 3 hours of your time, please get in touch. !
